LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincoln Police respond to a disturbance at a local convenience store where a man allegedly threw a bottle at the caller and started a fire.

Officers arrived at U-Stop, 610 S 10th St., where they noted the store was in disarray.

The suspect, later identified as 32-year-old Martin Markvicka, was holding a knife in his hand which he had used to stab various store items. Officers reported ordering him to drop the weapon multiple times, but he refused.

Officers say they attempted to negotiate with Markvicka but ultimately had to deploy a taser to take him into custody.

Once Markvicka was in custody, police found the employee had put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. A lighter and a baggie with about one gram of meth was found on Markvicka’s person.

No customers were in the store at the time of the incident.

Markvicka was arrested on multiple charges including first-degree arson and possession of a controlled substance.
