One last hot day before cooler air settles in for a while
Hot temperatures building from over the weekend will peak on Monday, the final day of summer heat for quite a while before temperatures take a nosedive starting Tuesday.
The more miserable parts of today could be this evening as we see the winds decrease and humidity increase ahead of an approaching cold front tonight. That front will not bring any meaningful rain chances or strong storms this time around.
Highs will be above normal with temperatures heating up well into the upper 90s to around 100.
Humidity should not be overly awful for most of the afternoon, making air temperatures “feel” a degree or two hotter.
There is a Heat Advisory in place from the National Weather Service for Douglas and Sarpy counties, largely for those without power due to last Wednesday’s storms to take precautions today. For most, heat index could be up to 103-105° today.
Now looking into Tuesday and beyond: a front tonight will drop temperatures as soon as overnight into Tuesday morning. Cloud cover Tuesday morning will increase, limiting daytime heating to possibly just the lower 80s.
Coolest days ahead will be the end of this upcoming week. Rain chances will also increase by the end of the week, too.
