LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was arrested Monday night after a traffic stop led to a chase in north Lincoln, the Nebraska State Patrol says.

Around 10:15 p.m., a trooper tried pulling over a Ford Focus for driving without taillights near 14th and Superior streets.

But the driver — 21-year-old Tajzier Johnson — sped off, heading westbound on Superior Street, according to the patrol.

The trooper followed Johnson as he went southbound on First Street.  Johnson was going over 80 mph during the chase, the patrol said.

Eventually, the patrol’s helicopter took over the chase from the air, and the trooper stopped following.

The pilots tracked Johnson until he stopped in a parking lot near 14th and Adams streets.

Johnson then ran away and tried to hide in a tree line, according to the patrol.

Troopers and officers with the Lincoln Police Department arrived on the scene, and a dog tracked Johnson.  He was found around 11 p.m. and taken into custody.

Johnson was arrested on suspicion of felony flight to avoid arrest, failure to obey a lawful order and several traffic violations.
