Hickman and Beatrice among recipients of energy efficiency grants

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska communities are receiving almost $1 million to improve energy efficiency.

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy announced Monday that it has awarded $958,000 in grants to 12 entities.

The money came from the 2021 infrastructure law, the department said.

Hickman was one of the big winners, receiving $100,000 for energy-efficient streetlights and traffic signals.

Nebraska City Utilities also received $100,000. That money will go toward streetlights in Bennet, Douglas, Palmyra, Unadilla, Otoe, Lorton, Julian and Brock.

Shickley, a village in Fillmore County, will get more than $83,000 for streetlights.

The state awarded Beatrice $58,000 to install energy-efficient lighting in the city auditorium and the police station.

Bloomfield, Curtis, Mitchell, North Platte, Peru, South Sioux City, Wahoo and Walthill also received grants.
