LTU provides update on Leighton Avenue, 84th Street and other projects

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The City of Lincoln provided updates Wednesday on several road projects.

The Leighton Avenue project is moving to the next phase, according to the Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department.

On Monday, Leighton will close between 48th and 56th streets.

The work there is scheduled to be done by early November, LTU said.

Most projects appear to be on schedule, based on dates previously provided by LTU.

The full closure on 84th Street between Van Dorn and O streets is scheduled to end Sunday.

On Monday, traffic will be reduced to one lane.

LTU said that project was delayed because the street damage was worse than originally thought. The city also blamed extreme heat, contractor scheduling conflicts and contractor workforce availability.

Pavement repair on westbound Yankee Hill Road from 27th to 14th streets is expected to be done by Friday.

Lane closures on 14th Street between Pine Lake and Saltillo roads are scheduled to end by Sept. 2.

LTU said it appreciates the public’s patience and said project dates are subject to change due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances.

“We remain committed to planning and executing street projects while minimizing impacts,” Thomas Shafer, assistant director of transportation, said in a press release. “To ease congestion, we have adjusted traffic signal timings and closely monitor traffic along affected arterial corridors.”
