Tumbling temperatures by this weekend
Haze currently lingers over much of the region from nearby wildfire smoke. With abundant sunshine, the day will dawn a similar look to the past few.
Highs though will be on the verge of 90. The record high for Thursday is 91° from 1963, and Lincoln will be close.
With a front incoming Friday, we’ll see an increase in cloud cover, yet still no chance for rain. Colder air will plunge southward by the end of the upcoming weekend.
We’ll start to gradually cool on Saturday with a high closer to 80. Yet Sunday, we start to actually feel more like sweater weather. North winds will pick up and gust closer to 25 mph throughout the day with a high only in the 60s!
And Sunday is not just a one off – we’ll see a few days of cooler conditions until warming back up by next Thursday and Friday. But Monday and Tuesday mornings early in the week could be some of our first frosts and freezes of this fall season.
An updated drought map came in this morning, showing Lincoln now in a severe drought for the first time since early January. Conditions worsened this week statewide.
Maaaaybe we’re in for a position for rain by NEXT Saturday. Finally. Yet hold out on the excitement for now.
