LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – An Arizona man was sentenced Monday after being caught with more than 5,000 grams of fentanyl in Hamilton County.

Daniel Raymundo Alvillar, 46, got 6½ years in federal prison followed by a three-year term of supervised release.

On Jan. 12, 2023, a Nebraska state trooper pulled over a pickup truck on Interstate 80 that didn’t have a front license plate.

The driver was identified as co-defendant Jesus Quinones Dominguez, with the passenger being identified as Alvillar.

Dominguez consented to a vehicle search after telling the trooper he had a screwdriver in his pocket.

Troopers noticed two screws missing from the plastic cover of the tailgate before finding a heat-sealed bag peeking out from underneath the cover.

After the trooper took off the cover, they found 11 heat-sealed bags filled with fentanyl.

In total, 11.28 pounds were recovered.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Dominguez was being paid $4,000 to haul the drugs to Chicago.

Authorities said he planned to split the payment with Alvillar.

Alvillar denied knowledge of the drugs but did consent the search of his cellphone.

Photos of the drugs being transported were found on the phone, as well as pictures of marijuana and messages referring to cannabis.

Dominguez is scheduled for trial on Dec. 17.
