LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska football’s offense is getting a major change with two games left in the regular season.

Head coach Matt Rhule said Monday that former Houston head coach Dana Holgorsen is taking over as offensive coordinator.

Holgorsen was added to the staff last week as an offensive consultant, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported.

“He gives us a fresh perspective on looking at what we are doing,” Rhule said.

Holgorsen led West Virginia for eight seasons, finishing with a 61-41 record and three AP top-20 finishes.

He was then hired as Houston’s head coach in 2019.  The Iowa native was fired after a 4-8 season in 2023.

Holgorsen is taking over play-calling duties going forward.

Marcus Satterfield, who Rhule had tasked with leading the Huskers’ offense, will stay on the staff as a tight end coach.

The decision comes after Nebraska’s loss to UCLA at home, where the Huskers struggled to overcome the Bruins’ defense.

Nebraska has three more chances to secure bowl eligibility with games against USC, Wisconsin and Iowa.

The Huskers haven’t been to a bowl game since 2016.
