Morning wintry mix west, then colder Thanksgiving and beyond
Early on Wednesday, there’s been a light wintry mix ongoing in southwest Nebraska. A lot of dry air is in place over southeast Nebraska, so we aren’t expected to see much as a result closer to home.
Can’t completely rule out a few flurries early today, but most will be quiet especially by Wednesday afternoon for this busiest travel day of the year.
Below is the timing of the wintry mix continuing over southwest and south-central Nebraska into the late morning hours of Wednesday, quickly coming to an end later.
We’ll then be fairly quiet other than a few passing flurries possible in northeast Nebraska on Thanksgiving.
High temperatures each day will only be in the 30s, with a very chilly feeling compared to the 50s and 60s of last weekend. More winter-time feels in time for December to start on Sunday.
And speaking of cold, the Iowa game in Iowa City looks bitter! Temperatures will be in the teens for most of that game, and it wouldn’t take much wind to be close to single-digit wind chills. Bundle up for that one!
Looking ahead to Friday night into Saturday, there’s still a signal for some snow possible for central and eastern Nebraska from a disturbance sliding south into our area.
I haven’t been convinced that we’ll see much from this, but many could see their first flakes of the season. The most recent model runs only hint at up to a half inch in Lincoln, if not less. Dry air may even cut into this potential even more.
This will be something to watch in the coming days if you have travel plans on Saturday. Otherwise, Sunday looks like a calm but rather chilly!
