LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The College Football Playoff Committee on Sunday announced the bowl placements for several programs across the country.

After a long hiatus, Nebraska was one of those teams. The Huskers will head to New York City on Dec. 28 to take on Boston College in the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium.

Boston College is coached by NFL veteran Bill O’Brien and finished its season with a 7-5 record. The Eagles average 29.3 points and 367.2 points per game.

The Eagles won three of their final four games to close out the regular season, with the only loss coming to playoff-bound SMU. BC also posted a non-conference win over Michigan State.

“Our team is looking forward to the opportunity to spend the bowl season in New York City and play in the Pinstripe Bowl,” Nebraska Head Coach Matt Rhule said. “This is a great connection between two iconic brands in Nebraska football and Yankee Stadium, and it will be a memorable experience for our players. I have great resect for the Boston College program and the success Coach Bill O’Brien had had in his first season.”

This will be the first ever meeting between Nebraska and Boston College. It marks Nebraska’s first meeting with a current member of the ACC since 2015.

Nebraska is headed to a bowl game for the first time since 2016. The last time the Huskers were in a bowl they took a 38-24 loss to Tennessee in the Music City Bowl.

The Huskers boast one of the richest bowl game traditions in the history of college football. From 1969 to 2003, Nebraska played in 35-consecutive bowl games.

Nebraska holds a 26-27 all-time record in bowl games, and are one of the few schools in the country to have played in at least 50 bowl games.

The Huskers finished the regular season with a 6-6 record following a heartbreaking 13-10 loss at Iowa.
