Man arrested after crashing into bridge guardrail in northeast Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Two men were injured early Sunday morning in a crash in northeast Nebraska, the Stanton County Sheriff’s Office says.
The crash happened around 7:27 a.m. on Highway 57, just four miles south of Stanton.
The sheriff’s office said a vehicle, driven by a 27-year-old Stanton man, crossed the center line and crashed into a bridge guardrail.
A passenger in the car, a 30-year-old Stanton man, was trapped inside and needed to be extricated.
Both were taken to a hospital to be treated for their injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
The driver was later charged on suspicion of second offense DWI, careless driving and having an open alcoholic container.
The highway was shut down for nearly two hours while crews worked to clean up the debris.
“Seatbelts and Airbags do save lives, but alcoholic liquor and driving don’t mix and often take lives of the innocent,” Sheriff Mike Unger said in a press release.
