Husker fans take over NYC for Pinstripe Bowl; about 15,000 expected at Yankee Stadium
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – For the first time in eight years, the Huskers are playing in a bowl game, and fans far and wide are celebrating.
The Nebraska Alumni Association posted a map showing where fans can gather for watch parties across the country.
But many die-hard Husker fans, including University of Nebraska-Lincoln alumni, traveled to the Big Apple to show their support in person.
UNL student and Husker fan Trey Hegel said he’s hasn’t been to a bowl game in a while but is excited.
“It’s a big, special thing,” he said.
Hegel said many Husker fans traveled to Ireland for the game against Northwestern in 2022, and since New York is even closer, he predicts a high turnout.
“There will be a lot of us out there,” he said.

It’s a chance to see their team play in one of the most iconic cities in the world.
“It’s been an exciting month ever since it was announced that we were coming here to New York to Pinstripe Bowl,” said Nicole Sweigard of the alumni association. “There’s been a lot of anticipation leading up to it. Hopped on a plane yesterday, flew out of Omaha, full of Husker fans.”

Sweigard estimated that 15,000 Husker fans will be at Yankee Stadium.
Even before the game starts, UNL alumni and fans are coming together to take over bars around New York City to bond over their love for the Huskers.
“We have hotels in areas of the city, so we wanted Husker gathering spots for each of those hotels, so they’re in different areas of the city,” Sweigard said. “One of them is even run by Nebraska alum.”
