Rain changing over to snow Monday into early Tuesday
Temperatures were in the upper 50s and lower 60s Saturday and Sunday, and hopefully you were able to enjoy it because change is already upon us.
It’s been clouding up so far today after that warm weekend. Rain will become likely by the afternoon hours Monday.
Scattered showers will expand in coverage across eastern Nebraska, then cold air from the north will turn rain to snow in northeast Nebraska first.
It’s looking like a mix of rain and snow will happen around I-80 and for a lot of southeast Nebraska around the evening commute.
Later than that, we’ll await our changeover to snow late Monday night into early Tuesday.
A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect for counties in northeast Nebraska by noon Monday until early Tuesday morning. Counties in purple (below) could see up to 1-3″ of snow and blowing snow as winds pick up late Monday night into Tuesday.
Total precipitation amounts will range from about a half inch to around three-quarters. But again, not all of this is falling as rain!
More accumulating snow is likely in northeast Nebraska where the Winter Weather Advisory is in effect. Totals drop off around I-80 and to the south because of the rain-snow mix then a later transition to snow.
Most of southeast Nebraska will see less than an inch, but this could actually be Lincoln’s first measurable snow of the season (tenth of an inch or more). This would be one of the latest first snows ever on record!
Short-term models are hinting at somewhere around a half an inch of total snow if not less for Lincoln, depending on when we start to see more snow than rain tonight.
