Snow on the way this weekend in first winter storm

Snow has been quick to move in and out this morning, before the commute. Up to 1-2″ had fallen through northeast Nebraska, missing us to the north. That caused a reduction in visibility for a time as it moved through, clipping northern Lancaster County with some flurries and light snow.

Dense fog will also cause visibility to drop in northern Nebraska, with a Dense Fog Advisory in effect until 8 a.m. Thursday morning.

Dense Fog Adv

Mostly cloudy conditions will be the case for much of Thursday, and we can’t rule out a few more flurries with those clouds today. More flurries will be possible again with passing clouds on Friday. High temperatures will be dropping into the 20s by the end of the work week.

Next 2 Days

But a blast of winter over the weekend will bring much colder air and accumulating snow. We’re watching for our first strong winter storm of the season.

Snow will likely start as soon as Saturday afternoon, lasting into Sunday.

Weekend

Snow is expected for most of Nebraska with this winter storm, and higher amounts will be especially possible in southeast Nebraska and toward Kansas City through Sunday afternoon.

State Snow Accum No Numbers

Winter Storm Watch has been issued for parts of southeast Nebraska Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. Snow accumulations could add up to 6″ south of Lincoln toward Hebron, Fairbury, Beatrice and surrounding areas of far southeast Nebraska.

Wsw Tweaked

Winds may be gusting around 20-30 mph on Sunday. Blowing snow could cause some drifts on roadways and reduced visibility for hazardous travel Saturday night into Sunday afternoon.

Beyond this winter storm, morning wind chills are expected to be well below zero by early next week.
