LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man from Mexico was sentenced Thursday for hauling a hefty load of drugs through Nebraska.

Sergio Jaime-Zazueta, 45, got 11 years and three months in prison for possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine.

Jaime-Zazueta was pulled over on April 25 on Interstate 80 in Seward County, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

He told a sheriff’s deputy that he was driving from Stockton, California, to St. Louis for work, but authorities said he kept changing his story about his route.

A dog then smelled drugs in the SUV, prompting a search.

Deputies found about 200 pounds of meth on the back seat and in the cargo area.

The Seward County Sheriff’s Office estimated the drugs were worth $7.2 million.

Jaime-Zazueta was working for someone in Mexico, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Authorities said this was his second trip transporting meth from Los Angeles to St. Louis. The first time, he was carrying about 100 pounds.

When he is released from prison, Jaime-Zazueta will spend three years on supervised release.
