Central Nebraska homicide suspect arrested in wife’s death

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska State Patrol on Sunday arrested the suspect in a homicide in Clay County.
Toby Gray, 39, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony, the state patrol said in a press release.
Gray is currently receiving treatment for a self-inflicted gunshot wound at Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln. He is now in the custody of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

At 8:30 p.m. Friday, deputies responded to a home near Road Q and Road 332 near Harvard, which is 25 miles east of Hastings.
When deputies arrived, they found 35-year-old Heather Gray dead with a gunshot wound. They also found Toby with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to the state patrol, there were also three young children inside the home. The children were taken into protective care and have since been placed with family.
State patrol investigators said Toby entered the home and shot his wife before shooting himself. The two were married, but Heather was planning a divorce.
Toby was transported to Aurora Memorial Hospital before being flown to Bryan West with life-threatening injuries.
The state patrol did not update Toby’s condition in its latest press release.
