LPD: Man arrested after attempted assault with a baseball bat near downtown Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was arrested Friday after police say he tried to assault someone with a baseball bat.

Just after 8:30 a.m. Thursday, officers responded to a report of an assault near Seventh and C streets.

The victim said an unknown male confronted him on the street before grabbing a baseball bat and charging at him.

Fearing he was about to be hit, the victim sprayed the man with pepper spray and called 911.

The man was seen retreating to his vehicle and fleeing the scene at a high speed, according to the Lincoln Police Department.

The victim was not injured, LPD said.

After interviewing him, officers identified the suspect as 33-year-old Marquel Callahan.

On Friday, Callahan was found near 44th and Huntington streets by members of the Metro Fugitive Task Force and officers with LPD.

Callahan was taken into custody and lodged in the Lancaster County Jail on suspicion of terroristic threats, use of a weapon to commit a felony and operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest.
