Day Without Shoes: More than 150 Lincoln organizations collecting footwear for homeless
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The People’s City Mission and Cornhusker Bank are leading the charge to collect shoes for the homeless for the 15th year in a row.
On Wednesday, dozens of people walked a mile to raise awareness for the cause — some without shoes.
More than 150 other organizations in Lincoln are doing their part as well for the Day Without Shoes.
There are over 200 drop-off locations with blue barrels for the drive around the city which can be found here.
Last year, about 40,000 pairs of shoes were collected during the drive, and the mission found a good home for every pair in a matter of weeks.
“That pair of shoes that you’re not wearing can change a life,” said Pastor Tom Barber, CEO of the People’s City Mission.
Over the past 15 years of the drive, 347,000 pairs of shoes have been donated.
