Vaccine Hesitancy Creates Concern About Measles Resurgence

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Gov. Jim Pillen and state health officials laid out a response Friday to the measles outbreak across the United States.

There have been over 750 confirmed cases of measles in under-vaccinated communities in 24 states.

Nebraska has no confirmed cases, and the governor said he would like to keep it that way.

Pillen and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services noted the importance of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine.

He said vaccination is the most effective tool.

“The big message today is really, really simple,” the governor said. “If you have children that aren’t vaccinated, let’s get vaccinated.”

The state’s response plan also includes working with local health departments on testing.

If you are interested in receiving the vaccine or want more information. reach out to your local health department.

“There are two kids that’ve died in Texas,” Pillen said. “Don’t want that on my watch here.”
