Rep. Mike Flood defends ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ at Seward town hall

SEWARD, Neb. (KLKN) — Hundreds of people lined up to enter Seward High School on Tuesday for Rep. Mike Flood’s town hall.

They passed signs that spoke out against Flood’s decision to vote in support of President Donald Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill.”

The signs were not allowed inside, but their message was loudly voiced by attendees.

Voters and Flood took turns arguing the facts.

“I’m impressed by the audience’s information base,” attendee Donald Hutchinson said. “They’re well read.”

Hutchinson said the high attendance “should send a message.”

From tax cuts to cryptocurrency and the bond market, everyone had their own reasons for going.

One big thing that came up was criticism over the changes to Medicaid in the bill.

Flood said most Nebraskans have nothing to worry about. He highlighted Nebraska’s low unemployment rate, saying few people would lose their benefits due to work requirements.

He also said immigrants in the country illegally would not be covered.

The congressman invited several people to contact his office directly to speak to their unique issues, but many seemed skeptical about that option.

“I’ve never spoken to this man personally, until I come to these town halls, and then he doesn’t listen,” Kim Stabbe said.

Many people at the town hall continued to express frustrations as they left, but more than a few told me they do appreciate that Flood showed up, given that House Speaker Mike Johnson has told Republicans not to hold town halls.

“It’s incumbent upon members of the Congress like me to be aware of what’s going on and be vocal about it,” Flood said.
