Grill sparks fire at southeast Lincoln home, causes nearly $100,000 in damage

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Crews battled a house fire in southeast Lincoln on Saturday.

Just after 6:45 p.m., several units were sent to a home near 70th Street and Old Cheney Road.

According to Lincoln Fire & Rescue, crews elevated the fire to a second alarm upon arrival due to flames on the deck, the size of the house and the temperature outside.

LFR said flames from a grill sparked the propane tank on the back deck, damaging both the deck and the exterior of the home.

The flames spread to the attic due to an overhang above the deck catching fire, LFR said.

Crews quickly extinguished the fire on the deck and in the attic.

The fire caused about $70,000 in damage to the home and $20,000 to the contents inside the home.

LFR said everyone in the home had to be relocated. No injuries were reported due to the fire.
