Seven homes hauled from York to boost small town’s housing supply

BRADSHAW, Neb. (KLKN) — Seven homes were moved from York to Bradshaw on Monday, turning a once-empty landscape into a brand-new neighborhood.

The goal is to meet the growing housing demand in the small town of about 270 people 10 miles west of York.

“I got started with this because I moved my own personal house,” said Brandon Skelton, owner of the seven homes. “Once you’ve done it once, you kind of understand all the things that go into it. And this was a lot; it’s more difficult of a deal.”

Skelton specializes in relocating houses.

He said he was excited to bring the houses, which used to belong to York General Hospital, to Bradshaw.

But moving seven homes down residential roads was no easy task.

”One of the challenges I would have to say is getting everyone lined out,” said Tim Tieken, owner of Tieken Home Moving. “We had a rainy day last week when we were supposed to move. We got rained out and pushed us back a week, so trying to get everyone rescheduled is the worst.”

The homes will be available to purchase or rent in spring of next year.

As the town watched the homes be put in, plenty of people said they’re looking forward to new neighbors.

Tieken said Skelton is the man with a plan.

“Boy, I worked with a lot of homeowners,” Tieken said. “We move 80 to 100 homes a year and Brandon, I would say, is one of my favorites.”

Asked about the kind of attitude it takes to build a neighborhood in a single day, Skelton said, “I got to thank all the people that are involved in this. This isn’t just a one-man deal.”
