WATCH: Nebraska Task Force One speaks before deployment to Texas

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska Task Force One leaders met with the media Monday before their journey to flood-stricken Texas.

The deployment comes after fatal flooding of the Guadalupe River in southeast Texas that has killed more than 100 people.

Multiple leaders from Task Force One spoke about their roles in the group and how they will delegate a successful trip.

Jamie Bray, the groups finance manager, said the 45-member group will leave Lincoln on Monday and make a stop for gas in McPherson, Kansas, before spending the night in Norman, Oklahoma.

Task Force One will then finish the trip to San Antonio on Tuesday morning.

“What’s happening down in Texas is devastating,” said Capt. Ashley Engler, Task Force Leader. “With the very limited information that I have, I can say that Texas wants us down there. They absolutely requested us, so you guys should be proud of that.”

According to Engler, as of Monday morning there is at least 41 miles of a ravine that still needed to be searched.

Maj. Gen. Craig Strong, director of the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency, applauded the team members deploying.

“What I see in this room is strength, and I see honor,” he said. “When I look across this room and realize the strength that you’re bringing to bear to others in need, there’s no other way to understand it other than you’re in your shoes going down to help others selflessly.”

Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird also issued a statement on the deployment of Task Force One.

“Our hearts are with the people of Texas who are facing the devastating impacts of catastrophic flooding. As they search for loved ones and begin the long road to recovery, Lincoln is proud to answer the call for help.

Today, members of Nebraska Task Force One team, including members of Lincoln Fire and Rescue, are deploying to assist with search and rescue operations. We are deeply grateful to these highly trained professionals for their courage, their compassion, and their willingness to put themselves in harm’s way to save lives.

We send them off with our full support and our hopes for a safe and successful mission. Lincoln stands behind them and with the communities in Texas who need their help.”
