Hot out of the gates this week; storm chances later cause us to cool
What a weekend we just had for weather! Especially on Saturday with a high only of 79° in Lincoln, that has been our coolest day of July so far. And we may not be done with the 70s yet, looking ahead later this week.
But first, it’s hot again Monday.
Temperatures statewide will be in the 90s this afternoon, peaking near the triple-digits in northwest Nebraska.
The moisture has yet to be completely replenished, so dew points in the middle and upper 60s will only make it feel a few degrees hotter today.
But the upper 90s will still be hot after the cooler weekend. Even the heat index over the weekend never got to 90.
Winds out of the south on Monday will range from about 5-15 mph through the day.
A few isolated storms will roll in to the very western reaches of the state this evening. They likely won’t make it out of the Panhandle.
There is a Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk for a primary threat of severe wind gusts with a stronger storm toward Chadron.
Our storm chances in eastern Nebraska won’t come until late Tuesday night into Wednesday with the next cold front.
Tuesday’s risk for severe weather steps up a notch though. A Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk is in place for parts of central and northern Nebraska. Isolated tornadoes, damaging wind and hail will all be possible by the time storms start up later in the afternoon and evening along said cold front.
For now, Lincoln is only on the edge of a Marginal risk with gusty winds as the main threat.
Another day in the 70s is in the forecast toward the end of the week.
