Nationwide ‘Good Trouble Lives On’ protests flood Lincoln streets

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) —Nationwide protests reached the city streets of Lincoln Thursday.

The “Good Trouble Lives On” protest was inspired by the late John Lewis, a former congressman and civil rights activists who died five years ago today.

Thursday’s rallies honed in on civil and human rights, with many feeling they are being attacked by the trump administration.

“I’m here because the President is weaponizing the presidency against people, both U.S. citizens and immigrants,” said Diane Wilson. “Congress is just laying down and doing his bidding, and we can’t have that.”

There were hundreds of people along O Street voicing their frustration with President Trump’s policies.

Another protest just down the street at the State Capitol building earlier in the day spread the same message.

“I’ve written, and I’ve called,” said June Pederson. “I get the same response, and the same votes. At least I can stand here, and acknowledge that I’m upset, disappointed and really angry.”

“I think it’s very important that we have people stand up, and say this is wrong,” said Kim Ramsey. “We have immigrants who are disappearing in the prisons.”

Both protests in Lincoln were just a quarter of what the state saw as a whole. Eight different protests were spread out from Omaha, all the way out to Scottsbluff.

“If not us, then who. If not now, then when. Today really represents that even though he has passed away, his message continues to live on,” said Madison Herman. “A lot of us worked today, we’re really tired. But, we all made the decision to come out today.”

But as a group, the protesters in Lincoln feel they can make a difference.

Channel 8 has reached out to the Nebraska GOP for comment on the rallies and have not heard back.
