Popular Nebraska lake closes boat ramp due to declining water levels
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — In response to declining water levels at Harlan County Lake, officials announced the closure of a popular boat ramp.
In a press release on Monday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said the Methodist Cove Boat Ramp will temporarily close to ensure public safety.
As of Monday, lake elevation stands at 1,937.40 feet, down from last week’s 1,938.03 feet.
With water levels continuing to drop, the ramp is no longer safe to use, according to officials.
“We understand this may be disappointing news to our lake visitors, but our top priority is ensuring safe recreational access, and we’re closely monitoring conditions to determine when it will be safe to reopen,” the press release said.
Temporary closure signs have been placed at the boat ramp entrance.
At this time, there is no set timeline for reopening the boat ramp.
Updates regarding the boat ramp, low-water ramp alternatives and irrigation releases will be posted on the Harlan County Lake Facebook page.
