Nebraska school systems ranked 13th in the nation
WAVERLY, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska ranks 13th in the nation for the best school systems, according to a WalletHub analysis.
WalletHub ranked each state’s education system, giving them scores based on performance, safety, class size, instructor credentials and funding.
Education officials said they’re proud of the high rating but not satisfied.
“I’m surprised it’s actually not higher,” said Corey Worrell, superintendent of Waverly Public Schools. “I think Nebraska does a great job educating all youth in our public schools and all of our schools.”
Worrell said education is high on Nebraska’s priority list.
In Nebraska, funding for public schools primarily comes from state government and local property taxes.
Worrell said the state Legislature is to thank for the high ranking as well.
“Every year, they are working to try to find ways to improve education and offerings that we have in Nebraska,” he said.”
Nebraska may not be in the top 10 yet, but many educators say it’s just a matter of time.
