Teen and staff member stabbed with pencil at Lincoln youth detention center

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A teen and a staff member at Lincoln’s youth detention center were attacked Monday, police say.
About 6:30 p.m., officers received a report of an assault at the Youth Services Center near 14th Street and Old Cheney Road.
Police said three female inmates — two 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old — assaulted a 16-year-old female inmate.
Surveillance video showed the girls punch the victim in the head, pull her hair and kick her head while she was on the ground, according to the Lincoln Police Department.
The 16-year-old attacker also stabbed the victim in the neck multiple times with a pencil, police said.
When a 23-year-old staff member tried to help, LPD said she was stabbed with the pencil multiple times in her head, chest and back.
The staff member was taken to a hospital. The teenage victim was treated by a nurse onsite.
The teen accused of wielding the pencil was referred to juvenile court on suspicion of second-degree assault and attempted second-degree assault.
The two 15-year-old were referred on suspicion of third-degree assault.
