Man attacked officer with mop handle at north Lincoln park, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was arrested Friday after assaulting an officer at a park in north Lincoln, police say.
Just before 1 a.m., an officer approached 54-year-old Ronald Burns at Pentzer Park near North 27th and Fair streets.
Burns had been at the park after hours and appeared “highly intoxicated,” according to LPD.
When asked for his name, Burns threw a blanket at the officer and pushed them, police said.
Burns also used a mop handle to “slam” the top of the officer’s foot before kicking them in the back.
Police said Burns was treated at a hospital for a cut on his face before being taken to the Lancaster County Jail.
He was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault on an officer, resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer and second-degree criminal trespass.
LPD said the officer was not seriously injured.
“We remind the public to comply with officer instructions when interacting with law enforcement for the safety of everyone involved,” police said in a press release.
