Belmont area gets new shelter for community teaching and outdoor time

A ribbon cutting was held earlier today for a new addition in the Belmont area. The elementary school there will have a new place to learn outdoors.
City Council chair Bennie Shobe officiated the dedication of the first ever Streets Alive! community development project.
The Belmont neighborhood stakeholders chose a project to benefit the health and vitality. They went with the outdoor shelter to replace an older, unsafe one that was taken down.
A sheltered pavilion is a new perfect place for the community organizers say.
“I think you will find people out here more often. it’s a place to have a picnic or an informal meeting. Or just to hang out on a hot day its nice to have the shade built in right there,” Bob Rauner with Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln said.
The pavilion is part of an initiative to help get people outside in Lincoln.
Game and Parks had a blue print ready to go, and $20,000 was raised to help build the shelter.
Local businesses came together to make it all possible with fund raising, community outreach and the construction.
