Electrocuted squirrel causes central Lincoln garage to go up in flames
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A detached garage went up in flames Saturday afternoon in central Lincoln.
Crews found flames when they got to the scene near 33rd and R streets just before 2 p.m.
Lincoln Fire & Rescue said the fire was put out within five minutes.
Most of the damage is to the exterior of the garage, but some flames spread to the rafters.
A spokeswoman from LFR said a squirrel was electrocuted on top of a power pole.
Embers fell to the dry brush below, igniting the fire, according to LFR.
Wind pushed the fire through the dry brush and ignited the garage.
According to LFR, the fire caused $75,000 in damage to the garage.
