Company to turn Lincoln plant into distribution center, eliminating about 100 jobs
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — About 100 jobs will be lost at the end of the year, when a manufacturer closes its Lincoln plant.
Neenah Foundry, which makes cast-iron products like grates and manhole covers, said Monday that it will shut down its Lincoln foundry on Dec. 31.
The facility will reopen as a distribution center on Jan. 1.
“We credit the success of the Lincoln plant to the dedication of our team of over 100 people, many of whom have been with us for decades,” President and CEO Vik Bhatia said in a press release. “We are grateful for their dedicated service to our company and our customers.”
Neenah Foundry said the decision to close the Lincoln plant came down to market changes.
Low-cost imports from India now account for a “meaningful” share of the domestic market for castings, the company said.
Those who lose their jobs during the foundry’s transition to a distribution center will receive financial assistance.
Neenah Foundry’s customer service team will still operate in Lincoln.
In addition to the Lincoln plant, the company has one in Wisconsin and one in Miami.
