Bolts vs. Blue Jays: Seward grabs first win of the season, rolls past Lincoln Pius X

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Seward Blue Jays are in the win column for the first time this year after defeating Lincoln Pius X 27-14 on Friday night.

In the first quarter, Seward forced three turnovers on three straight opening drives.

But the Blue Jays were only able to capitalize on one of them.

Kolton Green scored a 7-yard rushing touchdown to give the Blue Jays the early 7-0 lead.

Later on, Kayson Salyher found Jack Vynhalek for a touchdown pass. Seward led 14-0 at the half.

But at the beginning of the fourth quarter, Lincoln Pius X running back Anthony Iburg punched it in from the goal line to cut the lead to single digits.

The Blue Jays responded right away. Vynhalek caught his second touchdown of the night, helping lead Seward to its first win of the season.

Vyhnalek said he couldn’t have done it without his team.

“Everything I do wouldn’t be possible without my brothers behind me,” he said. “We’re coming into practice day in and day out. We’re doing the right things. Just got to prepare for next week.”

Seward wins its third straight matchup over Lincoln Pius X. It was their 20th meeting all time.

Blue Jays head coach Jamie Opfer said it feels good to be back in the win column.

“I couldn’t be more proud,” he said. “I am beyond blessed to coach an amazing group of young men. We continue to fight and continue to work. I put so much into this, and I’m just proud to be a part of it.”

Seward improves to 1-2, while Lincoln Pius X drops to 1-2.

Seward will host Scottsbluff next Friday, and Lincoln Pius X will face Platteview.
