Evening storms across southeast Nebraska later Friday, dry by Husker game
After a couple of gloomy days lately, Friday begins with more sunshine and fall-like temperatures again starting out in the 50s.
Clouds will increase the later part of Friday ahead of another wave of showers and storms sliding into southeast Nebraska by the evening. That means weather could impact area high school football games for the first time this season, being mindful that some lightning could be in the vicinity.
Numerous showers and storms look to be out there throughout these games, lasting overnight into early Saturday. Pack the ponchos and rain gear if you’re a fan heading out tonight!
Here’s a look at those showers and storms moving in from the northwest toward southeast Nebraska later on Friday. A stronger storm or two will be possible across southern Nebraska, too.
A Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk highlights southwest and south-central Nebraska for this afternoon and evening’s chance at isolated stronger storms.
There is an isolated tornado risk with this potential severe threat tonight. McCook is on the edge of that risk in the green shaded area below, indicating a 2 percent chance of a tornado within 25 miles of a point.
Hail could come with that stronger storm as well.
And damaging wind gusts may be on the order of up to 60 mph or so if we see that stronger storm in southern Nebraska later today.
This weekend will be slow to warm; isolated storms will be possible on Sunday, but occasional rain chances still continue into next week almost daily.
