Over 600 pounds of marijuana found in ‘elaborate’ hidden compartment in Lincoln traffic stop

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Deputies discovered over 600 pounds of marijuana inside a trailer during a traffic stop in Lincoln on Wednesday, authorities say.

Chief Deputy Ben Houchin with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said the agency’s criminal interdiction unit pulled over a pickup truck pulling an enclosed trailer on Interstate 80 near the 40th Street exit.

During the traffic stop, deputies became suspicious of criminal activity and a K9 sniff led to a search of the trailer, according to Houchin.

Inside, they found a “very elaborate” hidden compartment containing 609 pounds of marijuana.

“The way they figured it out is from the inside measuring, wasn’t the same as the outside, and they figured there was a hidden compartment and found it,” Houchin said.

The driver, 36-year-old Erisner Rodriguez Moreno of New Jersey, was arrested on suspicion of felony drug charges.

Houchin estimated that the marijuana is valued at over $1 million.
