LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska Community Blood Bank is offering a sporty incentive for donors across the state.

In a press release on Friday, the blood bank said it’s offering Husker fans a chance to cheer on Nebraska at the Iowa game on Nov. 28.

From Sunday through Nov. 21, all who donate at a donor center or community blood drive will be entered into a sweepstakes to win two tickets to the game, with seats on the 50-yard line.

Cheryl Warholoski — the executive director at the blood bank — said she hopes this incentive inspires more people to donate.

“Every donation is an act of generosity that can save lives, and this season we’re reminded how much our community shows up for one another,” Warholoski said in a press release. “The Iowa rivalry game holds a special place in Nebraska, and we hope this promotion not only brings fans together but also inspires more people to donate and support the patients in our hospitals who rely on the kindness of blood donors every day.”

The promotion comes at a crucial moment, as blood donations continue to fall short of hospital demand heading into late fall, according to the blood bank.

The blood bank supplies hospitals across Nebraska and western Iowa with lifesaving blood and platelets, but current inventory remains strained.

Overall, supplies have dropped to just a 3-day level, with Type O — the blood type most needed in emergencies and trauma care — at a 1–2-day supply.

The blood bank is urging both new and returning donors to give so hospitals have the blood they need for patients and unexpected emergencies.

Blood donors can give every 56 days, and platelet donors can give twice per month.
