BraveBe seeking Ring doorbell cameras to help domestic violence survivors feel safe again

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A simple camera could help save a life.

BraveBe Child Advocacy Center is requesting donations of Ring doorbell cameras to help protect families escaping abuse.

“The person who experienced harm should not be punished or penalized because of what happened to them,” said Bryce Marker, BraveBe’s domestic violence response coordinator.

For the team at BraveBe, safety doesn’t start with technology — but sometimes, technology can make safety possible.

“Having access to a Ring doorbell camera is incredibly important and can really help families have an assured sense of safety in their home,” Marker said.

The center is now asking the community to donate unused or new ring cameras to help families in crisis feel more secure as they rebuild their lives.

“During those times, there could be a lot of nerves about what’s going to happen, ‘Who’s going to come to my house when I’m not there?'” Marker said.

The organization said the devices also help police respond more quickly in emergencies and create a safer environment for survivors starting over.

“Often, a violation of a protection order is sometimes difficult to prove,” Marker said. “Having the ring door camera, they were actually able to provide the recorded evidence of the person who initiated harm coming to their home, and they were able to get a violation of protection order charge added.”

The camera might seem small, but for survivors who’ve lost their sense of safety, it’s a lifeline.

The center hopes every donation is a step toward security and a fresh start.

“Everyone deserves to feel safe in their home.”
