Lincoln man arrested after tearing apart hotel room at Embassy Suites, LPD says
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln man was arrested on Monday after police say he tore apart a hotel room at Embassy Suites.
Around 4:30 p.m., officers were called to the hotel on 11th and P streets after an employee called about a disturbance with a guest.
According to an arrest affidavit, the 24-year-old man refused to leave the hotel at checkout time and could be heard throwing items inside the room.
When officers arrived, staff members said the man left the hotel on foot and was last seen walking south on 11th Street. Officers then found the man on the northwest corner of 11th and P streets.
According to the affidavit, the man was already wanted for charges of vandalism and disturbing the peace from a previous case.
Officers proceeded to arrest the man, and he immediately tried pulling his arms close to his body, the affidavit says.
The man said he didn’t want to go to jail and continued to resist, sitting down in a curbed planter with mulch.
According to the affidavit, the man started biting at the officer’s hands and scratching exposed skin with his fingernails.
After “an extended ordeal,” officers were able to get the man into handcuffs and had to keep him on the ground as he continued to bite and scratch, the affidavit says.
Officers used leg restraints and a spit sock and were able to get the man into the back of a cruiser with limited resistance.
The affidavit says the officers sustained multiple scratches and cuts due to the scuffle.
Officers then checked the room in which the man was staying.
According to the affidavit, there was a large hole in the wall, a broken table top, a dresser drawer ripped apart and a broken lamp.
The man appeared in court for the first time on Tuesday and was officially charged with resisting arrest, two counts of criminal mischief, and disturbing the peace.
His bond was set at 10% of $15,000, and his next court appearance is set for April 13.
