Warm Friday, Changes Ahead This Weekend
A beautiful Friday ahead in Lincoln as we look forward to plenty of sunshine and above average temperatures. We could get a little breezy this afternoon, but that should not disrupt us from enjoying the pleasant day on tap.
Temperatures this afternoon will reach the upper 60s for most of us, though a few spots in the 70s cannot be ruled out.
The latest run of StormCast keeps us clear and dry on Friday and into Saturday.
The warmer weather and stronger winds behind an incoming cold front will pose a risk for fire weather in far northern reaches of the state, expanding into the panhandle. A Red Flag Warning is in place until Friday evening, any wildfires that start would be difficult to contain and grow rapidly.
Tonight, temperatures will be close to freezing in southeast Nebraska with a light easterly breeze.
Mostly clear skies are on the way for Lincoln for Friday evening with temperatures dropping to the upper 20s.
Wintry precipitation chances increase on Sunday as southeast Nebraska looks to snow and possibly a wintry mix starting late Sunday morning through Sunday afternoon.
Models continue to go back and forth on our snow chances in Lincoln, though even the most aggressive models keep our snow totals light.
Temperatures will drop heading through the weekend, plummeting to the lower 30s by Sunday. A wintry mix will be possible Sunday and Monday, before chances for rain take over the forecast by the middle of the week. After a cooler weekend, temperatures will be at or above average through the first week of March.
