Winds Continue Tonight, Cooler on Friday
Strong winds will continue into the overnight hours for north-central and eastern Nebraska for Thursday evening and into Friday. Several high wind alerts are in place across the area through Friday morning.
- A High Wind Warning is in place for north-central and northeast Nebraska, where gusts between 60-65 miles per hour are possible.
- A Wind Advisory is in place for southeast Nebraska, where gusts between 45-50 miles per hour could be seen.
Winds look to surge after shifting to the northwest late Thursday evening.
The risk for fire weather continues into Thursday evening, with a Red Flag Warning in place for the entire state. Any wildfire that starts or continues in these conditions will be able to spread rapidly and be difficult to contain.
The latest runs of StormCast keep us mostly dry overnight with a few clouds.
Forecast lows tonight are expected to drop to or just above freezing along Interstate 80. Gusts up to 50 miles per hour cannot be ruled out.
Cooler for our afternoon temperatures on Friday, with highs reaching the 50s in southeast Nebraska.
A brief warm-up on Saturday ahead of our next big system moving through late Saturday and into Sunday. A wintry mix with the chance for accumulating snowfall will be possible on Sunday, with very strong winds once again hitting the forecast, which could pose travel disruptions. We get a brief taste of winter to start the week before above-average temperatures return by Wednesday.
