Athlete of the week: Concordia Junior Laycee Josoff

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) —Concordia’s Laycee Josoff came up big for the bulldogs Friday.
In game number one of a doubleheader vs. Waldorf, the Bulldogs scored a season high 20 runs. For Josoff, she connected on her first two home runs of the year. Not only did they come in the first game, but the same inning.
Josoff finished the day with four hits two home runs, and six runs batted in. She described her team as being extra motivated that afternoon.
“I think we were just so into this game and we were all ready,” said Josoff. “We were like alright we need these points for GPAC and to get into the tournament, so our team was like c’mon lets go get some hits.”
Well, they got them. In that Friday doubleheader, the Bulldogs had a team combined 40 hits.
This season, the starting second baseman is hitting .304, with 28 hits and 19 RBI’s. Right now, Concordia sits at one game above .500 and are tied for sixth in the GPAC standings.
Josoff says if Concordia wants a shot at the playoffs, theyv’e got to keep that momentum going and keep the bats hot.
“Our performance with hitting is a big thing. Just coming together as a team,” said Josoff. “I think this team is a really close tight knit group. That’s what’s pushed us a lot of the way and we need to use that to our advantage in the final stretch of the season.”
Concordia has four regular season games remaining. The Bulldogs will face Doane Wednesday. First pitch set for 5:00 p.m. at Plum Creek Ballpark.
