Prescribed burn set for Wilderness Park in Lincoln on Wednesday

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department is set to conduct a prescribed burn at Wilderness Park on Wednesday.
From noon to 3 p.m., parks and recreation staff will burn about 8 acres just south of the Bison Trail in the north end of the park.
According to the city, there are no closures associated with this burn, but community members are advised to avoid the area during the project.
Aaron Druery, Parks and Recreation Greenways District Supervisor, said that prescribed and controlled burns are tools for managing large areas of native plants and grasses, reducing wildfire risk and enhancing wildlife habitat.
Parks staff monitor weather and air quality conditions to ensure safe burns.
