Severe Weather Potential: Saturday into Sunday, May 16-17, 2026

Severe storms are likely over the next few days. That includes tonight into Sunday morning. Then again Sunday night. Then again Monday. Please have a way to be alerted should severe weather move into your area.

There is a level 3 “Enhanced Risk” for severe weather in SW Nebraska.
There is a level 2 “Slight Risk” for just about everyone else.
There is a level 1 “Marginal Risk” in NW Nebraska.

For the video above: Storms are expected to form in two different areas starting early Saturday evening and lasting into the overnight. A line will move from south to north from northeast Kansas into SE Nebraska after 6pm, meanwhile a line will be moving west to east across the panhandle towards central Nebraska. They will continue on their tracks and eventually meet up in central and eastern Nebraska around midnight.

Parts of Nebraska have a chance for tornadoes tonight, generally after 6pm. The green shaded area typically means 1-2 quick spin up tornadoes are possible. The area with the brown shaded area may see slightly stronger ones. An isolated EF1-2 is possible.

Much of the state has a large hail potential, as well. The area in the brown shaded area may see hail up to 1” in diameter. The area shaded in yellow may see hail up to golf ball in size. The red shaded area may see hail in excess of 2″ in diameter… baseball size hail is a possibility.

Most of Nebraska has the chance at seeing damaging wind this evening, as well. The area in the brown shaded area may see wind up to 60 mph. The area shaded in yellow may see wind between 60 and 70 mph. The red shaded area may see wind in excess of 70 mph.
