Crash in downtown Lincoln topples power pole; one cited for negligent driving

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A two-vehicle crash on Wednesday caused a power pole to fall in downtown Lincoln.
Just after 1:30 p.m., several first responders were sent to the intersection of Ninth and G streets.
In a video sent to our NOW Local News App by a Channel 8 reporter, you can see heavy front-end damage to one of the vehicles, with the power pole lying on the ground.
One lane was closed on Ninth Street while crews cleaned up the crash scene.
A reporter said Lincoln Electric System was also on scene to tend to the power pole.
According to the Lincoln Police Department’s crash report, the driver of a 2002 Ford Ranger was headed south on Ninth Street when a 2019 Toyota Avalon merged into his lane to turn left onto G Street.
LPD said the driver of the Ford was traveling at 40 mph and driving erratically.
When the Toyota slowed to turn, LPD said the Ford driver merged off the road to the left to avoid a collision.
The Ford driver proceeded to hit a sign, the Toyota and a power pole.
LPD reported a minor injury to the Ford driver’s head. The driver of the Ford was cited and released for negligent driving.
