Athlete of the week: Dwaine Leonhardt

Dwaine Leonhardt

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) —At Adventure Golf Center in Lincoln, it’s hard not to know the name, Dwaine Leonhardt.

Why? Because his name is almost everywhere.

Dwaine is 76 years old and semi-retired. He shows up to play all three courses with two different balls five times a week.

“It’s a beautiful place. It’s like playing in a garden with all the flowers here,” said Leonhardt.

But, he doesn’t just show up at Adventure Golf; he has the magic touch.

Dwaine is atop all three leaderboards. He’s in 1st place on the red course, where he shot a 31. He’s also 1st on the blue course, shooting a 29. He’s the first person ever at Adventure to reach the 20’s.

“That’s 7 hole-in-ones and all twos,” Leonhardt said. “In fact, I got four hole-in-ones in the last four holes. That’s kind of unheard of.”

Despite Dwaine being a local legend on the course, he doesn’t let the fame get to his head.

“I’d be happy if someone else’s name was up there.”

Erik Gustafson, the owner of Adventure Golf Center not only admires Dwaine for being their number one customer, but he also praises his consistency and attitude.

“Dwaine is obviously on all three leaderboards. It’s fun to see customers come up and say, ‘Hey, who’s this Dwaine guy? He’s legit”, said Gustafson.

“I love the way he talks about the courses. He probably knows the courses better than we do.”

Leonhardt picked up the love for the game a while back. He began playing as a kid, but the past four years since coming to Adventure, Dwaine says what brings him back each day is not just about the course.

“It’s challenging. It’s never quite the same. I just enjoy doing it,” Leonhardt said.

But, for Dwaine, it’s not about the records. It’s just about having fun.

“As we’ve continued to run the business, we need to spend more time out on the course. Take a lesson from Dwaine and remind ourselves that this is a fun thing to do,” said Gustafson.

Now, coming up on July 12, Adventure Golf Center will be the host for the Miniature golf event in the 2026 Cornhusker state games.
