Here is a look at the latest run of StormCast, showing the potential for storms through Saturday morning.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in place for several counties in southwest Nebraska. The watch goes until 12 a.m. on Friday, July 3, and also includes portions of northeast Colorado and western Kansas.
Storm chances are increasing for Friday evening in eastern Nebraska. An Enhanced Risk (Level 3 out of 5) of severe weather is in place for the Lincoln and Omaha areas, indicating numerous severe storms will be possible.
A couple of tornadoes, up to golf ball-sized hail, and wind gusts up to 75 miles per hour could be possible in the strongest storms seen in our area.
Depending on how far south Friday evening’s storms make it, we may see yet another chance of storms on Saturday.
Forecast:
Low temperatures tonight will be mild once again in southeast Nebraska. Temperatures fall to the lower 70s alongside a chance for an isolated storm or two.
There is a chance for storms tonight in Lincoln, though the majority of our Thursday evening will be spent grappling with the heat and humidity.
Afternoon temperatures on Friday remain hot and humid, with highs reaching the 90s again. Winds will remain out of the south for the majority of the afternoon.
Make sure to drink plenty of water and take breaks from the heat if you are spending extended time outdoors on Friday. Heat indices will once again close in on 100°.
Keep an eye out for a lunchtime shower and storm in Lincoln, with a sunny afternoon ahead of evening storm chances.
After the holiday weekend, the heat and humidity will be in no hurry to leave. High temperatures remain in the upper 80s and lower 90s through the middle of July. Stay hydrated, stay cool and keep up to date with the latest forecast!
