“He would break bread with anyone”: Family and friends speak on Grand Island man after death from assault

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KLKN) — This morning at around 4 a.m. Matthew Bishop, a 41-year-old man from Grand Island, was taken off of life support. He had been on life support since Monday awaiting matches for organ donations.

Brent Lindner, a close friend and former coworker of Bishop, spoke about the impact Bishop had on the people around him.

“He was fun. He would have dance offs I mean the guy could dance,” said Lindner. “We’d have a couple beers and he’d look at me and I’d say ‘It’s go time brother’.”

Lindner said Bishop was well-loved, kind and generous. Bishop’s kindness spread to the people including his last gesture with organ donation, according to Lindner.

“He had a different way of looking at things,” said Lindner. “He would break bread with anyone. He was that type of guy.”

Lindner owns The Glass Bar in Grand Island, where him and Bishop would spend many nights together.

Many businesses and community members are gathering together to provide for the family of Bishop including Lindner’s daughter, Sydney Lindner. She owns Doll Face Beauty and is holding a raffle for other businesses to participate in by giving donations, gift cards or items until Friday.

Community members, friends, family and coworkers continue to share the type of person Bishop was.
