Warmth continues; Watching chance for storms next week
All of southeast Nebraska made it in to the 60°s Tuesday. This was the first time Lincoln has made it in to the 60°s in nearly three months – topping out at 64°. The last time it was this warm was December 9, 2020.
Wednesday will be much like Tuesday, minus the gusty winds. Sunny skies will be the rule and temperatures will once again top out in the lower to middle 60°s.
Above normal temperatures will continue for the one to two weeks. The normal high temperature in Lincoln is 45°. Thanks to a stronger March sun, temperatures will be 10° to 25° above normal with the warmest weather coming this weekend. Highs should get in to the middle to upper 60°s.
To give an idea of how quiet the weather is going to be over the next week and a half I’m going to mention a chance for a few thunderstorms next week.
Long range computer models suggest upper-level energy will pass through the United States early next week. At this time it appears the energy will pass through the central Plains Tuesday/Wednesday. Ahead of it, temperatures will remain warm at the surface. It appears some low level moisture could be drawn in ahead of the cold front that will pass. This will provide instability in the atmosphere, aiding in the development of thunderstorms. It is something we’ll be keeping an eye on over the next seven to eight days.
TONIGHT: Clear skies. Lows in the upper 20°s to lower 30°s.
WEDNESDAY: Sunny skies. Highs in the lower 60°s.
THURSDAY: Mainly sunny with some clouds arriving late. Highs will be in the upper 50°s to lower 60°s.
