Slight rain chances over the holiday weekend
With the 4th of July just around the corner, you might be wondering if rain will foil your holiday plans. Despite all of the dry weather we’ve had thus far, scattered storm chances return to the forecast across the state starting this weekend.
An upper-level disturbance arrives Saturday night in the northwestern portion of the state. This could increase rain chances in northwest Nebraska. Rain chances will be next to nothing Saturday evening for Lincoln, but you may encounter a few showers and storms if traveling west.
Stormcast highlights the potential for a few scattered storms closer to McCook, Broken Bow, and O’Neill Saturday night – mainly west and northwest of the Tri-Cities.
By Sunday, much of the state will still be under the influence of the upper-level disturbance. This could pop off a few showers in the eastern part of the state. We’ll introduce a small chance for some isolated showers and storms Sunday evening for Lincoln as a result.
Stormcast does show a potential for a few scattered storms near Lincoln Sunday evening. Severe weather does not appear to be likely.
Know that these rain chances are not high. Any storms that do develop will be hit-or-miss, and not everyone will see the rain. While you may have to dodge a few isolated storms, this weekend will not be a washout by any stretch. I anticipate that many 4th of July festivities will go on as planned with only a few events being affected.
Have a great weekend and stay safe!
