LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Recently released court documents are providing new details about what led up to the fatal shooting of a man at a party in north Lincoln.
Brothers Shantrel and Daqwan Hickey appeared in court for the first time Thursday on charges related to the death of 31-year-old Deontae Abron at a home near 61st and Adams St. on June 12.
Shantrel Hickey, who is being held without bond, is charged with second-degree murder. Daqwan is facing a weapons charge.
The brothers were part of a group seen on surveillance cameras in the Railyard and other locations hours before the shooting, according to an arrest affidavit.
Other videos showed a large fight and Shantrel Hickey leveling a gun in Abron’s direction, investigators wrote in the affidavit.
Online records show both men had previous convictions.
Shantrel Hickey had been sentenced in 2017 to a minimum of 20 years in prison for prior weapons charges. But that sentence was later vacated, according to corrections records.
He had also been sentenced in 2020 to more than six years for assault charges, and was under post release supervision since last June, according to NDCS.
Daqwan Hickey was also sentenced on an assault charge in 2017. As of Friday morning, NDCS records listed him as “in custody.”
